A Person who Cared

When Noach Dear was a Councilman he was there for his constituents and particularly me for which I will always be grateful. As Judge, he went beyond the call of duty to help our community. I will always be appreciative to him and he will be missed. May he find comfort at the side of Hashem for eternity.

R’ Noach Dear

Wonderful Man

Our family used to daven together with Noach a"h in Flatbush. He was always such a mentch. His public service was a tremendous kiddush HaShem. yehi zichro boruch.

R’ Noach Dear

Always a Mench

I still remember him form Yeshiva Beer Shmuel in the early 60's elementary school. Always mature, responsible, good student. Had occasion to support him in his political career as well. Honest, fortright, voted his conscience although some didn't always agree. A Klal person. He will be missed. I hope he is presenting arguments on behalf of Klal Yisroel to the Kisei Hakovod to have rachmunis. Surely, he wont be denied.

R’ Noach Dear

A Belated Thank You

I worked in the court system and in 2012, I met Judge Dear in the Brooklyn courthouse and expressed to him my desire to be transferred back to a Queens location, which was better for my commute and my family. I had been unsuccessfully trying to work this out with my superiors for quite some time. Shortly after my encounter with Judge Dear, my request was fulfilled. While I worked under him only less than a handful of times, he quickly understood the needs of a frum working woman and did what he could to help, behind the scenes and with little fanfare. The alacrity with which he performed this chessed clearly demonstrated that chessed was a primary occupation. Thank you Judge Dear z'l.

NY Supreme Court Judge

Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Noach Dear, z’l, passed away of the coronavirus on Sunday morning at the age of 67. Dear served as a member of the New York City Council from 1983-2001 and advocated for the issues of the mostly frum community he represented, including Midwood and much of Boro Park and Bensonhurst. He advanced many laws that assisted the frum communities in Brooklyn. In 2015, Dear was elected as the Brooklyn Supreme Court after serving as a judge for 20 years in the civil court system. Dear’s name was splashed on newspaper headlines in 2017 when he was subject to an anti-Semitic incident on the streets of Brooklyn. As YWN reported at the time, a man began screaming anti-Semitic expletives at him as he was walking near Maimonides Hospital early in the morning. Dear ignored the man, entered his car and called the police.

R’ Noach Dear Z”L

We are saddened to inform of the petira of Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Noach Dear Z”L. R’ Noach was a longtime councilman who represented Boro Park for over 15 years. R’ Noach worked as a commissioner of the Taxi and Limousine Commission, was a member of the New York City Council and a district manager for the Kings County Community Board 12. He was elected to the New York City Civil Court of Kings County in 2008 and was elected an acting supreme court justice in 2010. In the last few years, Judge Dear found himself in the position to assist many people who found themselves in severe financial difficulty due to financial debt involving predatory lenders. As an acting Supreme Court Judge many of these foreclosure cases involving the biggest financial institutions came before him. Community Leader Chaskel Bennett tells BP24 that Judge Dear went way out of his way to help those downtrodden individuals, often putting his own career on the line. "His knowledge of the court system and his willingness to assist the most vulnerable despite the political risks to him personally make his loss that much more painful." Bennett puts Dear's career as an effective public servant in perspective, "this is a man who never forgot who he was representing and never stopped caring about them. Throughout every step in his career, Noach Dear used his skill, his knowledge & compassionate heart to help the people who needed him the most." Yehi zichro boruch.
