A righteous and gentle giant

Deepest condolences on the loss of a decent human being. I met Dr. Buchbinder in 2013 at TBHC. During my tenure there I got to know him on a professional level. He was competent, honest and transparent. His love for the medical profession and his patients stood out in everything that he did at the hospital. The longer I knew him, the more my respect for him grew. He was a man of God. After we both left TBH he and I remained in contact and he subsequently referred to me as his friend. He always told me that he and I had to do God's world. My heart is saddened at the loss of a good soul. May he rest in peace as he watches over all of us.

Truly a Gentleman and a Scholar

My deepest, sincerest condolences to Dr. Buchbinder's family and "work family". I had the distinct honor of working with him at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and enjoyed our thoughtful conversations. He was brilliant and humble. Respectful and supportive of my views and goals at the hospital. He will be missed.

Rabbi Dr. Shalom Buchbinder

A Grateful Patient

His skill and dedication accompanied by his compassion saved my life as one of his patients. My prayers go out to his family.

Baal Chesed

I remember Shalom from his days at Yeshivat Sha'alvim. He would have very spirited discussions with Rav Haber and it was clear that he had a very sharp and quick mind. But, what stands out was the act of chesed that he did for me. We spent Succos together at his parents' apartment in Rechavia. I had no relatives with whom I could spend the Yom Tov and he invited me to stay with him. I chipped in for the food but he paid for most of it. He was treating me like his guest because that was the type of person he was. It's very rare to meet a person who was not only brilliant but also kind. המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים

A Great Loss

Yesterday I heard the sad news about Dr. Buchbinder, and I'm still in shock. I worked as a mammography tech under his direction from the 1980's at Albert Einstein Hospital (Weiler) until 2001 where I retired as his manager of Montefiore Med. Park Radiology. He was one of the most brilliant, loyal, and kind people that I have ever known. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Esther and family. I will miss my friend Dr. Buchbinder.

A Tragic Loss For All Of Us

We were devastated to hear of the passing of my colleague and friend, Rabbi Dr. Shalom Buchbinder. Shalom and I were fellow radiologists at Montefiore. We all valued his brilliant mind, clinical expertise, and his caring and devotion to his patients. He was a dedicated teacher who loved to share his wealth of knowledge. Equally important for me was his vast Torah knowledge. The times we spent talking in Torah were very meaningful and uplifting. This is a tremendous loss for all who knew him. May the beautiful memories give you comfort at this tragic time and may the family continue to exemplify and share his beautiful middos with others to bring an aliya to his neshama. Yehi zichro baruch.

Awesome person

Dr. Buchbinder was my teacher during residency at Montefiore and my first boss at Staten Island hospital. He taught me a great deal and was the nicest boss I have ever had. My deepest condolences to his family. I will miss him and I will never forget him.

Dayan Hoemes

I fondly remember Shalom from Shaalvim back in 1972/3. Although 47 years have passed since then, he remains firmly in my mind as a bright and popular bochur in the yeshivah. Already then he showed signs of true greatness. May Hashem give comfort to all the family at this difficult time.

I was saddened to hear of Dr. Buchbinder's passing. My son worked under him during his residency at Albert Einstein. I started going to see him because my son spoke to highly of him. I followed him from Einstein to Holy Name and even Staten Island. He was one of the nicest most knowledgable doctors. He will be missed. I am sorry for your loss and all of us as well.

Rabbi Dr. Shalom Buchbinder

I took care of him at Hackensack UMC.

I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to Dr. Buchbinder's wife about him. It was nice knowing what he enjoyed such as the botanical gardens and walking around the outdoors. I am sorry for the loss of this great man. May he rest in peace.

Friend, Mentor, Inspiration

There are precious few people in the world able to so seamlessly navigate the worlds of Torah learning at the highest level and of secular learning and leadership at the highest level. Add to that yirat Shamayim, total devotion to family, continued support to friends and strangers alike, and a healthy dose of humility, and one only begins to scratch the surface of who Shalom zt'l was and what he will continue to be in our memories. My chairman, mentor, friend and inspiration - kasheh alai preidatcha. I will always cherish the times we spent in conversation, a bit work-related, a bit more family-related, but most of all across the entire spectrum of Torah that you knew at your fingertips. Our conversations opened new gates of learning for me, and made me realize how my time could be better utilized to grow as a lamdan and as a person. My deepest, sincerest tanchumim to Esther and family, each of whom is a worthy successor to Shalom's incredible legacy. תנצב"ה

Rav Aryeh Stechler

From the very beginning of our yeshiva, Dr. Buchbinder spent much time and energy guiding myself and Rav Skulnick. He had a very thorough understanding of so many areas of Torah. His mom important dream was that his boys appreciate and study Torah to the best of their abilities. He believed in his boys and never ceased from singing their praises. Esther is the model of a supportive wife. His respect for her and her respect for him for evident in every conversation. Beyond his Torah scholarship, he believed that Torah Judaism should be on display each day in the workplace. He lived that belief each day and served as a real role model of Torah with Derech Eretz. May Esther and the boys continue to feel his towering strength every day of their lives, amve"s. Yehi Zichro Baruch.

Shalom Buchbinder

Dr. Buchbinder was a role model and medical consultant for our entire extended family. A true Ish Chesed and Talmid Chacham, he will be missed by us all.

Rabbi Dr. Shalom Buchbinder

We are very saddened

Betty and I remember our years in Einstein together. Shalom was a few years older, but our boys played together. He was a brilliant doctor, a Talmid Chacham, and a very humble person. His passing is a great loss for his patients. He was a walking kiddush Hashem and I was proud to know him. May his memory be a blessing.

Dr. Buchbinder will be truly and genuinely missed.

I worked with Dr. Buchbinder for several years at The Brooklyn Hospital Center within the Department of Radiology. I must say that it was a great pleasure to have crossed paths with him in the business aspect as well as a personal point of view. He has bought us so many great ideas and enhanced our point of view for functioning as a high quality department. I know that because of Dr. Buchbinder we are now much better in providing quality care. I have learned so much within Dr. Buchbinder’s presence. All that I have mentioned just speaks to the value that he has brought to us, the motivation he has given us to be better and to improve quality as well as personally. I would like to send my deepest and heartfelt condolences to Esther and all of his beauty kids that he has spoken so highly of. Dr. Buchbinder will be truly and genuinely missed. Sincerely, Michael Miller
