Lechol Mishpachat Deitel, Our family has been davening at Rabbi Zakheims Shul for many years. While we may not have been that "close" to Reb Shmuel personally (we were not zocheh to sit at his holy table), we must tell you that he made a tremendous impression on us. We only got to know him during the past few years when he started to daven with us, but we were zoche to see and experience a "giant of a man" with extraordinary kochos. With his disabilities, we saw a true Eved Hashem. We could sense that at times things were certainly not easy for him, but he "marched on" - With a bren and a smile on his face. We really got the impression that he understood and embraced that everything in life comes from Hashem. What used to really "blow us away" was when his Shver (he should be gezunt) would come to Shul and to see the extraordinary kavod that he gave to him. At times the Shver had to take care of needs in middle of Shmoneh Esray and Reb Shmuel A'H would stop and escort him to the bathroom. It was just something amazing to see and experience. We certainly do not know the ways of Hashem and we are all put on this world for a certain Tafkid. B"H he was zoche to build a beautiful home of Talmiday Chachomim and true Bnay Torah and the children gave him much nachas. They are who they are much because they saw a true Eved Hashem May he be a maylitz Yosher for the entire Mishpacha Hamakom Yenachem.... Respectfully, -- Saul Wasser

Reb Shmuel Deitel

I came to know R Shumel Deitel s"l as a member of my daf. His hislahvaus for learning impressed. The image of him sitting watching the Chanuka menorah will never leave me. And, his dignity and perseverance after a stroke felled him continued to inspire,
