Reb Wolf Abramowitz

We are saddened to inform of the petira of Reb Wolf Abramowitz, a Holocaust survivor who for many years owned Abramowitz's grocery on 15th Avenue and 43rd Street. He was 100. Mr. Abramowitz and his wife, who passed away a few months ago, were beloved figures in Boro Park decades ago. They got to know their customers and made a point of attending their simchas. Reb Wolf was from Satmar, and he survived the Holocaust despite spending time in Auschwitz. He held the numbers tattooed in blue on his arm as a symbol of faith. After the war, Reb Wolf married a fellow survivor and built a beautiful family. His only daughter is married to Joe Lazar, an activist and one time candidate for city council to represent Boro Park. The Abramowitzes opened their grocery in Boro Park decades ago, then purchased the building at 4310 15th Avenue from the Ribnitzer rebbe when he moved to Monsey, and reestablished the store there. They were a Boro Park icon for years, until they sold it to Posner's Grocery and retired to Flatbush and Florida. Reb Wolf was niftar during the final days of yom tov. He is survived by his daughter and grandchildren. Yehi zichro boruch.
