Rebbetzin Malka Kalmanowitz

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rebbetzin Malka Kalmanowitz a”h. She was 94. The rebbetzin was the wife of Rav Shraga Moshe Kalmanowitz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn, NY. Rebbetzin Kalmanowitz was a daughter of Rav Meir Shimon Pinsky zt”l, rov in Barashi, Russia. Rav Meir Shimon’s brother-in-law, Rav Avrohom Kalmanowitz, later used his connections to bring Rav Pinsky to America, where he became a morah hora’ah in Boro Park. Rebbetzin Malka’s mother, Rebbetzin Elka Vishka Pinsky, was Rav Avrohom Kalmanowitz’s sister. In 1945, Rebbetzin Malka married her first cousin, Rav Shraga Moshe Kalmanowitz, then an elite member of an exalted chaburah of future gedolei Torah at Bais Medrash Elyon. Throughout their fifty-three years of marriage, Rebbetzin Malka stood by Rav Shraga Moshe’s side and was a partner in his harbotzas Torah and avodas hakodesh. Rav Shraga Moshe passed away on 20 Nissan, the day before Shvi’i Shel Pesach, in 1998. The rebbetzin is survived by her children, Rav Yaakov Mordechai Kalmanowitz, Rav Aharon Leib Kalmanowitz, Rav Osher Kalmanowitz, Rav Yitzchok Kalmanowitz, Mrs. Esther Sommer, Mrs. Libby Zolty and Mrs. Devoiry Newman. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mrs. Maita Rosenblum a”h and Rebbetzin Rochel Henya Spitzer a”h.
